BENGALURU: Chief minister B S Yediyurappa is likely to allocate portfolios to the newly inducted seven ministers within two days.

“I will discuss the portfolio allotment with my senior ministers tomorrow and take a call in a day or two,” Yediyurappa said in Bengaluru on Monday. He had previously said the portfolio allocation will happen soon after home minister Amit Shah’s two-day trip to Karnataka, which concluded on Sunday.

The long-pending cabinet expansion that the chief minister carried out last week has led to dissent within the BJP with several senior MLAs making critical comments about the selection. While some were upset with three legislative council members making it to the cabinet, some questioned the yardstick used in the selection.

Seven legislators -- Umesh Katti, Murugesh Nirani, Aravind Limbavali, S Angara, CP Yogeshwara, MTB Nagaraj, and R Shankar -- took oath, while excise minister H Nagesh was shown the door.

Yediyurappa holds several portfolios including finance, DPAR, energy, Bengaluru development, excise, information and public relations, intelligence from Home, small scale industries, tourism, Kannada and culture, youth empowerment and sports. He may retain finance and Bengaluru development during the allocation.
