Sebi came out with guidelines for categorisation and rationalisation of mutual funds in October 2017. The market watchdog said the new guidelines were applicable from the next financial year, and it extended the deadline by another three months. Mutual fund houses finally completed the entire process by June 2018. Some schemes were merged, some schemes saw changes in fundamental attributes and nomenclature.
