Sensex closed 646 points higher at 38,178, while Nifty rose 1.68 per cent to 11,313.

All sectoral indices except IT, Teck and Consumer Durables closed higher on BSE.

As many as 23 out of 30 Sensex stocks closed higher, with financials contributing the most to the gains.

After a six-day battering, Nifty50 rallied to reclaim the 11,300 mark. The index, which broke above its 50-day exponential moving average intraday, also zipped past its 200-DEMA in late trade.
