NEW DELHI: A horrific incident shook the nation on Friday when a 27-year-old woman veterinarian's charred body was found on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The investigation showed that the young woman was raped before being killed, and the local police have arrested four people. Meanwhile, State Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali's statement caused further uproar when he blamed the victim for not calling the police (call '100') immediately.

Within hours, Twitter's top trending topics were taken over by the incident and victim's name and her face. #RIPHumanity and #HangRapists were also few of the top trending hashtags across the country. Several celebrities and sports personalities also came out in support of the young victim.

Actor Akshay Kumar cited three rape incidents in Hyderabad, Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand, and said that 'we seem to be losing it as a society'. Remembering about the gut-wrenching Nirbhaya case that happened seven years ago, he said that our moral fabric continues to be in pieces. "We need stricter laws. This needs to STOP," he concluded his tweet.

Sickened to read about the incident, actor-and-entrepreneur Abhishek Bachchan posed a question, 'when will this stop?'. He further stressed for concrete solution to this problem. "We can’t and we mustn’t go on like this. Something has to be done. And fast," he added.

Actor Richa Chadha said that the perpetrators treated the victim like a thing, and not as a human being. She also said that the victim's only crime was trusting those men.

Calling it a shameful act and heinous crime, cricketer Harbhajan Singh demanded for a strict policy against such criminals, while VVS Laxman urged the government to take stringent action against the guilty.
