Rohan Murty, Aparna Krishnan tie the knot in an intimate ceremony; Bombay Jayashri performs at reception

The couple were surrounded by family as they took their vows in Bengaluru.

Rohan Murty, son of Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murty, tied the knot with Aparna Krishnan in an intimate ceremony in Bengaluru, on Monday.

The couple, who met through common friends and have known each other for almost 3 years, gave the big, Indian wedding a miss, and chose to take their vows surrounded only by family and close friends, in Bengaluru.

The traditional day wedding was followed by a reception at night in the city. Krishnan, the daughter of a Kochi-based retired SBI employee Savithri Krishnan and a former Indian Navy officer Commander KR Krishnan, opted for a white lehenga with colourful floral embroidery. She completed her look with her hair in a bun, accessorised with pink roses. Meanwhile Cornell-alumnus Murty kept it simple in a coffee-coloured kurta and black pants for the reception .


The 73-year-old IT stalwart gave his son company, opting for a plain kurta paired with black pants. Author Sudha Murty was dressed in a beige saree with a blue and gold zari border, and daughter Akshata Murty opted for a blue saree for the reception.

Noted singer Bombay Jayashri enthralled guests - that included the Infy family - at the reception.

Murty has a PhD in Computer Science from Harvard University, and is a Junior Fellow at the Society of Fellows of the University. He is the second computer science scientist to be decorated with the honour by the University after Marvin Minsky, the father of artificial intelligence. Murty’s PhD thesis on the use of white spaces (spectrum) is considered path-breaking.

Krishnan did her initial schooling in India and later got a scholarship to the United World College in Canada for her high-school education. She has a degree in economics from Dartmouth College, and has worked at McKinsey and Sequoia Capital in India. Her sister is married to Kartik Hosanagar, a technology professor at the Wharton School in the US.
