Netflix India makes 'Binod' memes on 'Stranger Things', 'Sex Education', netizens have a hearty laugh

NEW DELHI: The year 2020 has been challenging for the entire world. A global pandemic, earthquakes, gas leaks, forest fires - everything that could have possibly gone wrong this year, did and put the entire world in a fix. However, it was the fun social media trends like, #MyQuarantineInSixWords and #IHaveAJoke that kept the people in high spirits.

In the beginning of August, there came a social media trend that single-handedly uplifted the spirits of the people. The trend, at first, left social media users scratching their heads, and later, had them rolling on the floor laughing. Yes, you guessed it right - we are talking about ‘Binod’, who seems to have taken social media by storm.

Be it comments under popular social media posts, memes or the comments section of any post - Binod was everywhere.


The question remains - who is the young lad Binod, and why is he going viral on social media? Here’s all the tea…

Binod’s full name is Binod Thakur and he has a YouTube account with no videos. His activity on YouTube is limited to going on videos, and commenting his name, ‘Binod’.

Recently, a YouTube channel, which goes by the name of ‘Slayy Point’, made a video roasting YouTube comments and how meaningless they can be at times. One of the comments Abhyudaya Mohan and Gautami Kawale, the faces of the YouTube channel, highlighted was a comment that simply had the name ‘Binod’ written on it.

As the video went viral, people started picking up on the trend and flooded social media posts and comments with the name ‘Binod’. The trend went viral in no time, so much so, that leading brands like Swiggy, Tinder, Netflix and even PayTm started picking up on it.

One of the Twitter users, with handle @GabbbarSingh, asked fintech startup PayTm to change their Twitter username to Binod. The good folks at PayTm were a sport and instantly obliged to the request.

Popular streaming platform Disney+Hotstar, too, chimed in with a meme.
Food-ordering app Swiggy was celebrating their birthday and hoped Binod would call them up at 12am to wish them.

Netflix India appreciated another hero, Armaan, who they claimed had commented on every tweet sent from their handle over the last year.
The good folks at Netflix went a step ahead and churned out Binod memes on some of their most popular shows and films like 'Sex Education', 'Stranger Things', '3 Idiots', 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' and more.

Airtel India, too, capitalised on the trend and asked their followers to receive every call with ‘ haan Binod bol’ and share their reactions.
Tinder India, however, won the cake with their tongue-in-cheek tweet. First, they sent out a tweet that read, ‘Yes Binod is on Tinder’ and followed it up with, ‘Binod just matched with Binodini.’
In another hilarious tweet, Tinder India wrote, “Binodini replied ' tere binod nahin lagda dil mera dholna'.”
Amazon Prime Video also had a hilarious take on the social media trend.
Mumbai Police too jumped in on the trend and promoted online safety. In a tweet, Mumbai Police asked Binod to change his online password.
Nagpur City Police asked Binod to stay home as corona is ‘more famous’ than him while Jaipur Police created an acronym out of Binod in a bid to spread awareness.

Twitter handle of reality show ‘Bigg Boss’ also speculated that ‘Binod’ could be a contestant this season.
