Apple is reportedly planning to release new betas every few weeks in summer to fix as many bugs as possible.
Apple unveiled its upcoming operating system IOS 14 for iPhones and iPadOS 14 for iPads at WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) 2020. The Cupertino-based company has now released the public beta versions of iOS14 and iPadOS 14. Usually, one needs a $99 developer account in order to gain access to Apple’s betas but this one is free for all.

Apple is reportedly planning to release new betas every few weeks in summer to fix as many bugs as possible by testing a large number of users. For starters, it is advisable not to download the beta version on your primary Apple device as some apps and features might not work at all. There is also a possibility that the new update might ‘brick’ your device and render it unusable.

Therefore, you must proceed with extreme caution. On your secondary Apple device, enroll into Apple Beta Software Program with your Apple ID. Then go to Settings > General > Software Update from your device to download the update. The device should have at least 50 percent battery or connected to the charger to install the new package.

The new iOS 14 comes with a plethora of new features such as widgets on the home screen, a new App library and ability to run App Clips to preview apps without installing them on the phone.

New updates also include cycling directions for Apple Maps, Picture-in-Picture (PiP) support and memojis with face masks.

A large number of users had raised issues with iOS 13 because the apps were apparently refreshing on their own which lead to users losing data. iPhones were automatically refreshing the apps which were previously accessed, a problem which users didn’t face with the previous versions of iOS.

“I was watching a video on YouTube [sic] on my iPhone 11 Pro I pause the video to respond to a text message. I was in iMessage for less than one minute. When I returned to YouTube it reloaded the app and I lost the video I was watching,” stated one of the forum members called Rogifan

After iOS 13.3 release, one of the beta testers took to Twitter to share that Apple had reportedly fixed the issue. He said that he had 32 apps open on his iPhone 11 Pro Max and none of them refreshed.

iOS 13.3 also comes with another minor update. It allows users to control when they want to see Memojis and Animojis.

In Settings > General > Keyboard, you can now turn off Animoji and Memoji Stickers from being displayed on the emoji keyboard.

For the uninitiated, Animojis are 3D, animated emojis that transform familiar emojis to animated messages. Memojis, on the other hand, are personalised Animojis, akin to Snapchat’s Bitomji, that look exactly like the user.
