Anand Mahindra, Venu Srinivasan to be honoured with Padma Bhushan; Naukri.com founder to get Padma Shri

The President has approved conferment of 141 Padma Awards, this year.

NEW DELHI: On the eve of India's 71st Republic Day, the Government announced the names of industrialists Anand Mahindra and Venu Srinivasan for the third-highest civilian honours - Padma Bhushan - for their contribution to the field of trade and industry.

The Mahindra Group Chairman, who charms his 7.4 million followers on Twitter, is also known for his philanthropic work.

Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the micro-blogging website, the 64-year-old business tycoon expressed gratitide for recognising the philosophy done by our Mahindra Rise.


TVS Motor Company Chairman, Venu Srinivasan, who is an honorary professor at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M), was also conferred with the Padma Bhushan.

The prestigious institute congratulated the noted industrialist.

Sanjeev Bikhchandani, founder and vice-chairman of Naukri.com, India's leading job site, was on Saturday conferred with Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian awards. According to a home ministry statement, Bikhchandani has be en given Padma Shri in the category of trade and industry.

His company also runs Jeevansathi.com, 99acres.com, and Shiksha.com. In addition, it has made strategic investments in promising web start-ups such as Zomato, Policybazaar, Shopkirana and Ustraa.

He graduated from IIM Ahmedabad in 1989.

Starting off from a servant quarter above a garage and seed capital of two thousand rupees, the entrepreneur's company grew and attracted investments from leading global venture capitalists.

Others to businessmen to join the Padma Shri list of honour were industrialist Bharat Goenka, technocrat Nemnath Jain, and Fairfax Financial Holdings Founder-Chairman Prem Watsa.

The President of India will confer these awards at a ceremonial function in Rashtrapati Bhawan. The President has approved conferment of 141 Padma Awards, this year.
