After 18 months, St Regis recently launched the brand with The Caroline Astor Art Tour conducted by Gayatri Ruia and Tushar Sethi. The hotel currently has around 70 artworks but their aim is to reach 200 pieces soon. Ruia says, "I practically raided my mother-in-law's dining room and bedroom for some of the art."

One of her favourites is the St Regis Mumbai mural, commissioned to award-winning artist GR Iranna. Inspired by Mumbai, the mural includes everything from the black and yellow taxi driver, the fast food seller, the stock market broker, the cult film actor and even a cricketer. But, what caught our eye were the pink clouds scattered across, covering some faces in the mural.

At an earlier event, the artist had revealed that he had painted the gods Ganesha and Krishna, but that it had to be covered up later in case it hurt people's sentiments. Perhaps this precaution was sparked by the 2014 incident of MF Husain's Ganesha painting being removed from display at the JW Marriott hotel. However, Ruia had another way of looking at the pink clouds, telling us, "To me, they are representative of the people of Mumbai's aspirations."
