Tata Motors global wholesale declines 32% as the group faces troubles across markets

This was the steepest and the fifth straight month of sales decline for the automotive group this financial year.

Tata Motors reported a 32% decline in the group's global vehicle wholesale for the month of August to 72,464 units. This includes the sales numbers for commercial and passenger vehicles under the Tata brand as well as Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Daewoo.

This was the steepest and the fifth straight month of sales decline for the automotive group this financial year. The group is facing troubles across all its segments and brands due to a global sales slowdown. While Tata Motors commercial vehicles (CV) and passenger vehicles (PV) sales have declined due to a demand slowdown in India, JLR is suffering slowing sales in its key markets of China and Europe. Uncertainty due to a no-deal Brexit is also weighing on the business prospects of the British brand.

Global wholesale of PVs declined by 22% to 47,098 units while for CVs the decline was much steeper at 45% to 25,366 units, the company informed in an exchange filing.

In the PV segment, JLR sales came in at 39,615 units with Land Rover brand contributing three-quarters of this number and the remainder came from the Jaguar brand.
